The Time: 1963.
The Location: The sweaty community of Coral Gabels, Florida.
The Band: A non-stop, swinging group of strapping high school students. A fiery brand of dancy, frat-ready, up and fun, rockin' beat beat. Arthur Ehrens, screaming and grooving. Gary Rosenberg, showing uncanny skills on skins. Jay Bourgeois, cutting through the amp. Don Smith...played bass. Together, they are known as the Royal Regents, and they rocked their high school proms and promettes like no other Miami Jews could.
The Album: Recorded live, in one take. As Mr. Ehrens puts it, the Cuban man hit record and said, "Play!" walking away with a clock, displaying the amount of time that passed at $50 an hour. Pressed for time, the band played every song they knew, without pauses, for two hours. Included on the site are a few selections to give you the real Royal Regents treatment.
